Windows 11 announced for October 5th release

by Lyndon Doyle - Thu 02 Sep 2021

Windows 11 announced for October 5th release. This will be a steady rollout across the week with users who can upgrade finding it available in the Windows Update area of Windows 10 as an optional update.

There has been some confusion regarding the hand out, even though Microsoft are offering this free of charge they have also muddied the water with regards to who can actually upgrade and indeed then receive updates in the future.

To explain a bit further in general anyone with a 7th Gen Intel or AMD Ryzen CPU and above will be able to upgrade for free and receive updates in the future providing the motherboard of your device supports TPM 2, originally this through people off as there is a lot of devices which are older than this and the news made them frustrated, TPM 2 is a Trusted Platform Module and basically adds an extra layer of security to a Windows computer making an extra barrier to protect a user or computer from malware and such attacks.

There is a way around this but it cannot be recommended as you wont receive the same level of updates it is meant to provide so if you find yourself not meeting that requirement or indeed have a computer which is 5 years + older perhaps now is the time to consider upgrading to newer hardware?  With all the requirements and resources computers need these days we would recommend it, however for those who don’t want to please remember Microsoft will continue to provide support along with security and general updates for 5 more years to come.
