Microsoft Confirms Office 2024 Perpetual License coming later this year.
by Lyndon Doyle - Mon 25 Mar 2024While Microsoft continue to prefer everyone goes the way of Microsoft 365 and their subscription based products they have acknowledged there is still a need for a supported license and its almost time for Office 2021 to be replaced as last week they released a Preview build with a view to provide general availability later in the year.
New Features to include:
- Search Enhancements for Outlook and new meeting creation options
- New Excel features and functionality including Dynamic Charts and Arrays
- Overall performance, security and accessibility options
Know changes:
- The removal of Microsoft Publisher in the Professional Plus addition, this appears to be set for retirement
- Microsoft Teams will continue to be a separate application
- It won’t include options for AI-driven automation like you would see with a Microsoft 365 subscription /w separate CoPilot subscription
- Will continue not to allow real time collaboration
- Will continue to work on Windows 10
- ARM devices will require Windows 11 to run correctly
This will come with the usual 5 year support and update lifecycle from Microsoft, still be available in 32 or 64 bit flavours and while there is no confirmation they have confirmed the base prices of these will be higher than they have been before as they poke us all to the monthly subscription route.
